Writing the Book on Project Management:


HAVERTOWN, PA (Nov. 16, 2006) – Organizations that use projects to improve their overall performance now have several new resources to draw from. Project Management Solutions, Inc. (PM Solutions), led by CEO and former PMI president J. Kent Crawford, has added three new book titles to its library of industry resources.

Project Management Essentials; Project Management Maturity Model, Second Edition; and Advancing Organizational Project Management Maturity are available online from the Center for Business Practices (CBP) at www.cbponline.com. The CBP is PM Solutions' dedicated research and publications division.

PM Solutions uses its ongoing research program and the experiences of its consultants and trainers to continually update its knowledge base in the form of books, white papers, and educational feature articles and workshops, which are available to the public. The three latest books from PM Solutions include:

Project Management Essentials (William P. Athayde, Deborah Bigelow Crawford, Ruth Elswick, and Paul Lombard). This introductory text covers the basic concepts of the five fundamental project management processes, defining requirements, schedules, risk management, and change control. Readers gain an understanding of how the project management processes are used during each phase of a project to build a better, more effective project plan. The authors of this book represent faculty and leadership of PM Solutions' training arm, the PM College. This book is also used as a companion text to PM College's training course by the same name.

Project Management Maturity Model, Second Edition (J. Kent Crawford). Based on the nine project management knowledge areas specified in the Project Management Institute's A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide, Third Edition), this volume explores the project-based elements critical to organizational improvement. These include the project office, management oversight, and professional development. The book also features the Project Portfolio Management Maturity Model, which provides best practices for determining portfolio maturity, setting short-term priorities, improving portfolio management processes, and tracking progress.

Advancing Organizational Project Management Maturity (Tony Appleby, et al). This volume examines how to apply a project management maturity model in the real world, provides research on the benefits that companies experience from advancing their project management maturity, and explores best practices in using a strategic project office as a catalyst for organizational change and best practices in building project manager competency. It also presents best-practice findings on an attribute of truly advanced organizations: the ability to align projects and corporate strategy.
